Driving tests are conducted at our Lake City Office from 8am to 11am and after 2pm (subject to change due to staffing levels and customer requests), Monday thru Friday. Columbia County residents will be served first in the event of a large volume of requests for service. It is highly recommended that requests for service are made prior to 11am and will be suspended from 11am until 2pm. Appointments are not needed as our staffing levels permit 2 driving skill tests to be done simultaneously. Due to safety concerns for our staff and for our citizens we will not administer driving skills test in rainy conditions.
If you are interested in taking the Driving Skill Test; you must provide a vehicle for the Driving Test. The vehicle must have a valid tag registration, proof of Insurance and pass a vehicle inspection before the test is given. The examiner will observe your ability to control the vehicle and how well you obey traffic laws.
Driver license handbooks for both regular and commercial applications are available in our office subject to inventory levels; there is no charge for a Driver License Handbook. These Handbooks are also available for reading or downloading on the Driver License Handbook page.
